About Maries Pizza

In 1979 Marie and Ted Sherman (Snr) packed up the car and moved the five kids from rural Bathurst to the Gold Coast in search of good weather and with a vision to provide jobs, lifestyle and security for their family. Along with the Sea Change came a career change, from Auto Electrician to Purveyor of Pizza!

Maries Pizza was officially founded in 1982 with the first store at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, Queensland. From the very beginning Ted (Snr) and Marie recognized the need for excellence and developed their unique pizza dough with the assistance of a qualified pastry chef. Toppings were always flavoursome, fresh and plentiful and soon both their products and service had become legendary.

Maries Pizza Palm Beach became an iconic pizzeria and “hang out”, loved by the surfies and families of the Gold Coast alike. Success bred expansion and soon the entire family was involved in every aspect of the business from dough production to management and development.

The family passion resulted in total immersion in the business with everyone learning the skills, and indeed art, of pizza making with an unfaltering dedication to the provision of superior products and services. Personal relationships with their customers were fostered (Kate and Ted Junior even married customers), client’s nicknames for their own customized pizzas became part of their local pizzerias menu and embedded in the culture. Many of Marie's Pizza customers today have been with them from the beginning!

As the Gold Coast matured from a good natured beach resort to a progressive metropolitan city the family have never rested on their laurels, every aspect of the business has been constantly refined and improved in order to continually and successfully meet the market for 25 years.

Maries Pizza currently operates as a purveyor of gourmet style pizzas, based on quality and quantity of toppings such that the product is a complete meal in itself more akin to a restaurant pizza and not just a convenience food.
